Jonathan Day

Jonathan DayJONATHAN DAY works as a photographer, writer and musician and is Associate Professor of Transmedia Arts at Birmingham City University, secretary of the Birmingham Photography and Archive Research Group, and visiting professor at IVE, Hong Kong; Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand; and the Academy of Design, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Jonathan’s recent publications have included Postcards from the Road (University of Chicago Press) a book reworking Robert Frank’s The Americans in dialogic images, travelogue and exegesis. A complementary collection of songs – composed and recorded as the images and texts for the book were being made – is due for release in September by Proper Records. Jonathan is currently engaged in a promotional tour presenting images, texts and music at a range of venues (please see jonathanday.net for details). Other recent publications include “Jazz, Kant and Zen: the philosophy of improvisation” for the International Journal of Culture and Dialogue (Cambridge), “The Stain of Time”  (Aalto University Press) and “Asian Rasta” (Punk and Post-punk, Intellect).
